Enlisted: July 22, 1918, Kemmerer, Wyoming
Discharged: January 21, 1919, Camp Lewis, Washington
PVT, Medical Detachment, 39th Field Artillery, 13th Division
Serial#: 3-462-781
"I had been drafted into the service. The time had been set for me to go to Kemmerer, Wyoming for my physical, and from there I was going to Fort Riley, Kansas, to be mustered into the Army. But my wife being very sick, they granted me a furlough until she had recovered and was back on her feet and then I went into the service. I was one of the fortunate ones. A number of other boys from the valley there went at the same time. While we went to serve our country and to do our part in the service, or anything that was required of us, as I say, we were some of the fortunate ones because before we had received our full training, preparations for overseas, the armistice was signed. But I spent 18 months in the service in training. Out of that 18 months, I had my wife with me for about 3 weeks in Camp Lewis, Washington, in the State of Washington, where I was discharged. We found a lot of happiness there and we had a lot of good times. Three other boys from Star Valley had their wives there, and we really had a ball."
