Jason was one of 6 Winans brothers to fight in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Jason's military highlights:
Sep. 3, 1861, enlisted in Meadville, PA as a Corporal in Co. F, 83rd PA.
July 2, 1863, his regiment was on the right of the 20th Maine near Little Round Top at the Battle of Gettysburg.
May 5th & 6th, 1864, captured a rebel Colonel during the Battle of the Wilderness .
May 8, 1864, wounded at Laurel Hill, VA.
Sep. 7, 1864, promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Co. D, 83rd PA.
Feb. 7, 1865, KIA in Battle of Hatcher's Run, VA and was buried at Dabney's Steam Saw Mill. He was disinterred and reburied at Poplar Grove Cemetery after the war ended.

James (Co. C, 150th PA). July 1863, listed as MIA during the Battle of Gettysburg.

David (Co. D, 18th PA Cavalry)
June 29, 1863, KIA at Hanover, PA in one of the skirmishes leading up to the Battle of Gettysburg.

John (Regiment is not known at this time) survived the war and died of natural causes on Mar. 16, 1917.

Samuel (Co. C, 169th PA) survived the war and died of natural causes on Apr. 8, 1917.

Chadwick (Co. C, 109th PA) survived the war and died of natural causes on Sep. 3, 1919.
