RICHARD SIMMONS FAMILY AND OTHER FAMILIES OF PIKE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, page 32, by the late W. W. Simmons:

"Emanuel D. Varnado was born in South Carolina January 16, 1807, and died October 20, 1882. He was a son of Leonard Varnado who settled in what is now Pike County, Mississippi in 1809 or 1810."

Again we quote from Minutes of Mt. Zion Church,

"Emanuel D. Varnado departed this life at his home in Pike County, Mississippi, October 20, 1882, aged 75 years, 9 months and 4 days. This truly good man was born in Barnwell District, South Carolina, January 16, 1807; removed with his parents to the (then) Mississippi Territory in 1811. In 1828 was married to Miss Sarah Simmons with whom he lived the remainder of his life. He joined Beulah Baptist Church, Washington Parish, La. in 1832. In 1838 he went into the constitution of the Mt. Zion church where he remained a leading and consistent member..."
