And we quote here from an obituary in the Minutes of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church,
"Sarah Simmons Varnado died at her residence in Pike County, Mississippi, June 23, 1885. Sister Varnado was born in Pike County, Miss, January 4, 1814; was married to Emanuel D. Varnado January 10, 1828; united with Beulah church, Washington Paris, Louisiana, in 1837; withdrew 1838 and went into constitution of Mt. Zion church."
The obituary committee was composed of G. H. Varnado, S. M. Simmons and S. O. Simmons, the latter two being nephews of Sarah Simmons Varnado.
