MURPHY - Harry Atwood, 62, life-long resident of Jasper county, died Feb. 12, at 3 p.m. at the Skiff Memorial hospital following an illness of hardening of the arteries.

Mr. Atwood was brought to the Skiff hospital two days previously after a two-mile trip on a bobsled to a waiting ambulance. The efforts of the snowplow failed to clear the road within two miles of his home.

Mr. Atwood, son of Captain and Mrs. Merritt Atwood, was born April 12, 1867, on a farm in Palo Alto Township southeast of Newton and grew to manhood in that community.

He was united in marriage to Anna Adams on Nov. 7, 1888, and with the exception of four years in Newton, the couple spent all their married life on the farm one mile south of the Pleasant View church.

Surviving relatives are three sons, Gael E., Ivan B., and Merritt W. Atwood, all of Newton; three brothers, Grant Atwood of Newton; Charles Atwood of Des Moines and Frank Atwood of Long Beach, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Grace Wells of Ferndale, Minn.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Murdoch funeral home.
