Ivan Blake Atwood was the son of Harry and Anna (Adams) Atwood, and the brother of Gael E. Atwood and Merritt W. Atwood. Ivan served in the U.S. Army during WWI in the 168th Infantry Regiment (Third Iowa) with his brother, Merritt Atwood. On 25 March 1922 he married Vera Ona Parsons in Des Moines, Iowa, they divorced. He then married Weltha (Erskin) Houck. No children were born in either marriage.

Corporal, Headquarters Co., 168th Infantry, 42nd (Rainbow) Division. born March 29, 1893. Son of Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Atwood, Newton, Iowa. Served with his famous regiment as Champaigne, Chateau-(unreadable), St. Mihiel, and in the Argentine (unreadable); also the Army of Occupation.
