Madison (Cornie to his family) was a Quartermaster Sergeant in the Louisiana Confederate Army, in charge at Spanish Fort, Alabama, located as part of the defense of Mobile Bay. He was taken prisoner and sent to an Indiana POW Camp. Cornie was released from POW camp in Indiana and returned to Mobile, Alabama where he married Virginia Burfoot.
