Betty lived with her husband in Heath, Ohio. She is a mother of ten with four of which have passed on. She is a proud grandmother and great grandmother of three. Her sister is Fredalynne Schmidlap
She passed away peacefully in her sleep early on Tuesday morning.

HEATH: Betty M. Schmeltzer, 85 of Heath, went home to be with the Lord, 1:44 A.M., Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio. She was a loving wife, mother, caregiver and devout Catholic. With gratitude to the Licking County Aging Program, Home Instead, and Hospice of Central Ohio, her last months and days have been peaceful.Betty was born January 1, 1928 in Barnesville, daughter of the late Lela Thompson. She was a member of St. Leonard Catholic Church, recently; and a longtime member and volunteer at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. She was a homemaker and dedicated community volunteer; spending many charitable hours in her more than 15 years of service with Hospice of Central Ohio.She is survived by her loving husband of 64 ½ years, Thomas "Edmund" Schmeltzer, of the home; her living children and their spouses, Cecilia Schmeltzer of Zanesville, Wendy and Doug Stang of Indianapolis, Allen Schmeltzer of Texas, Alice and Bill Buskirk of Howard, Toni and George Coffran of Martinsburg, WV, and James Schmeltzer of Chicago; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many loving in-law and friends. In addition to her mother, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Patty Schmeltzer; her sons, David and Paul Schmeltzer; and her sisters, Fredalynne Schmidlap and Virginia Crain. As her body has been donated in the name of research to The Ohio State University Division of Anatomy, there will be no viewing; but friends and family may attend her Funeral Mass to be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 5, 2013. Inurnment will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date. The family requests that memorials be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, Ohio
