Ethel Hunton
Union City - A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Mariposa United Methodist church in Mariposa for Ethel E. Hunton, 88, a former Mariposa resident who died Sept. 19 in Union City. The Rev. John Dumermuth of the church will conduct the service. Inurment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Merced.
Born July 16, 1898 in Churdan, Iowa, she graduated from San Francisco Teachers' College and taught school in El Dorado County before her marriage to Lynn W. Hunton, who preceded her in death in 1965 at age 72. She moved from Berkeley to Mariposa in 1957 and lived in the Masonic Home since September 1983.
Mrs. Hunton was a member of Mariposa United Methodist Women and was treasurer of United Methodist Church's administrative board for several years. She was Warder of Las Mariposa Chapter 200 Order of the Eastern Star and served on its committees, was a member of the John C. Fremont Hospital Volunteers and the University of California Mothers' Club, treasurer of mariposa Historical Society and a docent at the museum, and served as chapter regent from 1971 to 1973 and as public relations chairman and chaplain for the Mariposa Daughters of the American Revolution. She collected stamps and buttons and displayed them at shows in Fresno, and also collected dolls.
Survivors include two sons, Lynn and Fred Hunton, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
