LUCY SLAUGHTER
---Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Slaughter, Aunt Lucy as she was called, who died Thursday night, were held at the Christie Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2:00, conducted by Rev. Fred L. Hudson. Burial was in the La Plata cemetery.
---Lucy A. Allen was born November 18, 1846 near New Burg in Macon County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Allen.
---In early life she was married to Henry Phillips. Later to Jacob B. Slaughter. No children were born to these unions.
---Some twenty-five years ago she united with the United Brethren Church at La Crosse, Missouri. By her deeds and many acts of kindness to all who knew her, she showed the faith of Christianity. She had been a helpless invalid for some seven years during which time she was cared for by a niece, Mrs. Ora Slaughter of near La Plata.
---She leaves to mourn her departure, a vast number of nieces and nephews. Three brothers, William Thomas and Robert Allen, have preceded her in death and four sisters have preceded her in death, Sally J. Matthews, Debora Archer, Margaret Hickman and Susan Scott. Two living sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hays of Enterprise, Oregon and Tabitha Brooks of Keokuk, Iowa with a vast number of friends who knew her, survive.
---Mrs. Slaughter was a small girl during the Civil War and remembered well when Abraham Lincoln was president. A few days ago she told the name of the first merchant in the town of La Plata.
