Mel was the son of Willie Herman & Anna S (Larson) Elofson. He was one of four children: Arnold, Ralph, & Harriet. His father died when the children were young. Mel worked for Coast to Coast as a district manager. He met Ruth Wilson while visiting the Vinton, IA store. They married April 21, 1946. They had three sons: Dean, Larry, and Rick. In 1956, they moved from Cedar Rapids, IA to Wayne, NE where they owned and operated the store until 1983. Mel was with Coast to Coast for 40 yrs. Due to his failing health with Alzheimers, and Ruth could no longer care for him, he resided at the Elkhorn Nursing Home until his death.
