Gail L. Diamond TMC (SS), 90, of Twin Falls, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005 at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls.

Gail was born Feb 18, 1915, in Mankato, Kan., to Fred and Anna Diamond. At age 11, he moved to Colorado, Idaho and then on to Port Angles, Wash., where he completed his schooling and joined the Navy in 1939. Gail served in the navy for 26 years on numerous submarines and was Chief of the Boat on the USS Tilefish, Ronquil and Bashaw. Gail saw combat in WWII, Korea and Vietnam and did tours of duty in Japan, Pearl harbor and the Philippines. Gail was wounded in combat during WWII and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. he was also awarded the Bronze Star, Army Unit Citation Badge and numerous other medals and commendations. Gail retired from the Navy in 1966 and was proud for having served his country.

He was an active member of several organizations including the Masonic Blue Lodge #45, Shrine Club, Purple Heart Club, Fleet Reserve, Sub Vets Inc-Holland Club and Sub Vet WWII.

Gail married Dorothy Hanes in 1971. Soon after they moved to Port Angles, Wash., where, at the age of 57, Gail went back to college. He was employed by Seattle First national Bank until his retirement in 1975. Gail and Dorothy traveled extensively for many years and eventually came back to Twin Falls to make their home. Gail was an avid woodworker and enjoyed sharing his crafts with friends and family.

Gail is survived by his wife Dorothy Diamond; two daughters Gayle (Cary )Ammann and Lori (Ron )Bonczkiewicz and sons, Steve Hanes and Michael (Pamela) Hanes. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Elsie orchard, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
His parents, sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
A memorial service for Gail will be held at 1 P.M. Tuesday, Jan 3, 2006 at Parkes Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberely Road, Twin Falls, with Pastor John Davis of the Kimberely Baptist Church officiating. Cremation and private inurnment in the Shoshone Cemetery are under the direction of the funeral home.
