V. D. BECK, 84, R.R. 5, Rochester, died at 1:10 a.m. today in Woodlawn hospital, where he had been a patient one week. He had been in failing health seven weeks. A retired farmer, he was born Oct. 4, 1883, in Richland township, the son of John and Anna GLAZE BECK. His marriage was on Sept. 17, 1904, in Rochester, to Lilly OVERMYER, who survives. Mr. Beck spent his life in this area and was a member of the former Sandhill Methodist church. He was a 63-year member of the Richland Center I.O.O.F. Also surviving are one daughter, Miss Edna BECK, at home; three grandsons, Billy and James O'DELL, R.R. 5, Rochester, and Richard [O'DELL], R.R. 4, Rochester; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas BECK, R.R. 5, Rochester; one sister, Mrs. Jane HALTERMAN, Rochester. One daughter, one grandson, a granddaughter, four sisters and three brothers preceded in death. Last rites will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Foster & Good funeral home. The Revs. Russell GOOD and C. J. MOWRER will officiate. Burial will be in the Reichter cemetery northeast of Rochester. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Richland Center I.O.O.F. will conduct memorial services at 8 p.m.
