Matthias Weidman (Whiteman) was born in Lancaster Co.; he was commissioned Lieutenant in Col. Samuel Atlee's Pennsylvania Musketry Battalion and was taken as POW at either the Battle of Long Island (Brooklyn) or Fort Washington in 1776 by 1780 he was released and about 1780 removed to Guilford County and reenlisted in the militia at the rank of private, he served in Col. John Paisley's (Peasely) Guilford Co. Regiment and fought a Camden, S.C., Clapp's Mill and Guilford Courthouse.
