Abraham Klaus was the brother of Saloman Klaus of Rulzheim, Phalz, Germany. He came to the US when he was a young man in 1857. He was a merchant. On October 27, 1874 in Mobile, AL he married Theresa Strider. To this union were born two children Julius Leo and Augusta.

Abraham often helped young German immigrants with work and board in his home.

Abraham Klaus served the Confederacy during the Civil War in Company C, 11th Mississippi Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia.

His nephew, Julius Klaus came to him from Germany as a young man. He worked in Abe's store and lived nearby with a neighbor as he became proficient in English. Julius became a successful businessman in Richmond, Virginia.
