Mrs. Sarah Atkinson

Mrs. Sarah Amanda Atkinson passed away, after a short illness, Sept. 13, 1913 at the age of 64 years at her home north of Belleville.

Sarah Amanda Holmes was born in Harrison county, Ohio, Nov. 6, 1849 and was married to G.H. Atkinson, Oct. 13, 1868 at Cadiz, Ohio. Seven years later they moved to Johnson county, Iowa where they resided until coming to Kansas in 1902. She was the mother of eight children all living except one, who died in infancy. Those who survive are: John of Pipe Stone, Minn., William and Ezra of Oldham, S.D., George of Chester, Neb., Mrs. C.F. Robinson of Enid, Okla., Mrs. J.W. and Mrs. F. Pack of Texhoma, Okla.

Mrs. Atkinson was a direct descendant of that sturdy pioneer stock that was the first to settle Ohio. Her grandfather being one of the first to establish settlement in that state.

The funeral was held at the Christian church (sic)in Chester, Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor of that church. Burial was made near Chester.
