He was married October 13, 1868 to Amanda Holmes, to which union eight children were born. His wife and two children preceded him in death. He served in the army during the Civil War, enlisting in 1864.
In 1876 they moved to Iowa, living there until 1904, when he moved to a farm south of Chester. He left the farm here in 1916 and went to Enid, Okla. where he made his home until May 1st, 1927, going from there to a sanitorium (sic) at Hot Springs, S. Dak., at which place he died. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. McCarthy from the Christian church (sic) at Chester, Monday morning, September 26th, and the body was laid to rest beside that of his wife in the Chester cemetery (sic).
