Alvira Jane McIntire was born Aug 7, 1848 in Rowan County, Kentucky, to parents Nicholas McIntire (1802-1859) and Eliza D. Sims (1802-1892), both born in Kentucky.

Alvira was the 7th child in a family of eight children. Her brothers and sisters were: James McIntire (1830-), Elizabeth Sims McIntire-Adams (1833-1913), William D. McIntire (ca 1835-1901), Amanda McIntire-Glover (1837-1907), Mary W. McIntire-Adams (1840-1920), Melvina McIntire-Wyatt (1844-1909), and Andrew L. McIntire (1850-1920).

About 1867 in Kentucky, Alvira married James W. Bailey (1834-1915), also born in Kentucky. James was a son of David Bailey (ca 1805-1835) and Gehaza Roe (1808-?).
James and Alvira settled into a life of farming in Kentucky until in the early 1880's they moved and settled in Weatherford, Parker County, Texas.

James and Alvira had 8 children, only 4 who reached adulthood. Their known children were: John Andrew Bailey (1868-1947), Walter Scott Bailey (1874-1949), William D. Bailey (1878-Bef 1900), George Bailey (1880-), and Ida L. Bailey-Michon (1884-1944). All the children except Ida were born in Kentucky. Ida was born in Texas.

In the 1910 census, James and Alvira Jane were listed still living in Weatherford near their daughter Ida. James was age 76, and Alvira was age 63.
