She attended Canton schools, graduating from Canton High School.
On Nov. 28, 1958, she married Richard Swasey. She worked at the Wayne General Store and for the Kennebec Journal in Augusta, was a caregiver for Ruth and John Lee in Wayne, and spent many enjoyable years cooking in the Rockwood area at Debbie's Restaurant and Lawrence's Camps.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard Swasey; her three sons, Dan Hodge and his fiancée, Gayle, of Rumford, Alan Swasey and his wife, Karen, of Skowhegan, and Allan Gurney, of Portland; three daughters, Paula Hacopiannik and her husband, Vahik, of Vista, Calif., Karla Swasey, of Winthrop, and Debbie Buzzell and her husband, Craig, of Wayne; her grandchildren, Jeff Hodge and his wife, Rebecca, and their 2 children, Sage and Samantha, all of Front Royal, Va., Christa Kidder and her husband, Scott, and their five children, Catherine, Jonathan, Scotty, Gabe and Cody, all of Wilton, Courtney Hodge and her three children, Toni, Kyre and Rhianna, all of Alexandria, Va., Meagan Hamblett and her husband, Andy, and their four children, Peter, Lincoln, Helen and Christopher, all of East Boothbay, Jody Letourneau and her husband, Craig, and their two children, Lindsay and Julia, all of Winthrop, and Jana Diket, of Winthrop. She is also survived by three of her sisters, Diana, Lena and Laura; former son-in-laws Kurt Gilbert, of Winthrop, and Linwood Diket, of Whitefield; many special nieces and nephews; as well as many, many dear friends who were always just a phone call away.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her sister, Joyce.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, to be held in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. (Kennebec Journal 11/14/2009)
