Funeral services for Hazel (Luiten) Jeffers, an Odessa native and former resident, were held on June 24, at the Almira Community Church in Almira. Mrs Jeffers, a resident of Almira, died on June 19, 1997, in Davenport. She was 90 years old. She was born in Odessa on Sept 18, 1906, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Ochs) Luiten. She attended schools in Odessa, graduating from Odessa High School with the Class of 1924. In 1931, she married Charles Jeffers, of Almira. She owned and operated a beauty salon for many years in both Odessa and Almira before retiring. After retiring, she and Charles continued to live in Almira until their health forced them to move to the nursing home in Davenport. Charles lived there until his death n 1993, and Hazel continued to live there until her death. She is survived by three sisters, Elsie Luher, of Pullman, Evelyn Smith of Spokane, and Erma O'Leary, of Vancouver, BC, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Wraspir, in 1994. The Rev David Oliver officiated at the funeral. Interment was at Almira Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (Odessa Record: 6-26-1997)
