Her first husband was Avery "Arch" Preston. According to "family info", Avery "went to buy meat on Feb 15, 1911 and never returned". Years later, however, when Frank (the son of Avery & Nannie) was a grown man, Avery did return to Carterville to see the family.
Some years after Avery "disappeared", Nannie divorced him and eventually married again. Her second husband was Harry Blackburn. They were married until his death in 1958.
Nannie's obit from the Webb City Sentinel, Dec 29, 1971: Nancy (Nannie) B. Blackburn, 97, living at 501 N. Washington St, died at 12:45PM, Tuesday, in a local nursing home where she had lived for the last 2 years. Mrs Blackburn was born on Nov 4, 1874 at Meadville, Mo and had lived in Carterville for the last 90 years. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church and was secretary and treasurer of that church for several yrs. She was past matron of the Carterville Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Harry Blackburn, died in 1958. Survivors include 2 brothers: John Simon of Galena, KS and Dick Simon of Webb City, a sister, Grace Root of Webb City, a grandson, a great granddaughter and great grandson. The Rev Geral Jeffries will officiate at her funeral at 2PM on Thursday. Pallbearers will be: Terry Jeffries, Clyde Clark, Keith Hamsher, Neil Carter, Claude Perry and Henry Sills.
