John A. Jessop, 66, died Saturday, October 17, 1964 at Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo, after being admitted to the hospital on Oct. 11th with a bullet wound in the head.
Dr. Paul O'Keefe, Blackhawk county medical examiner, ruled that he died of a self-inflicted
.22 caliber bullet wound. The medical examiner said; Mr. Jessop had been despondent about
his retirement and shot himself at his home in Vinton on Oct. 11.

Deceased was born at Humboldt on. Dec. 26, 1888, to Phillip and Otta Everfson Jessop,
and married Hazel Wood at Cheyenne, Wyoming on Jan. 7, 1920.
He was a retired farmer and came to Vinton about four weeks ago from Potter, Neb.

Mr. Jessop is survived by his widow; five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Helen) Kinney of Dix, Neb, Mrs. Thomas (Viola) Springer of Heppner, Ore., Mrs. Lyle (Virginia) Evans, and Mrs. Milton (Lilly) Schieb of Fairfax, and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Kerkman of Vinton; three sons, Verl and Clarence of Potter, Neb., and Jimmy at home; one sister, Zella Kershaw of Ogalla, Neb.; two brothers, Raymond and Harold, both of Pinebluffs, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at Fry and Holland Funeral home, with Rev. H.M. Raecker officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.
