While at Work at His Home on North Perkins Street – Death of A. R. Peters
------
The community was shocked this afternoon to learn of the death of Sex Hilligoss, who dropped dead while at work in his backyard at his home on North Perkins street, about 2:30 o'clock, death being due to a stroke of apoplexy.

Mr. Hillligoss was down town only this morning, and made some small purchases, and from all outward signs, seemed to be enjoying the best of health.

Deceased was a man loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance, and was formerly mayor of this city [1886-1888], and in his younger days was one of the important factors in Republican politics in this city and county. He lived in Madison county for several years and was quite well-to-do, but he met with financial reverses and after many unsuccessful attempts failed to retrieve his fortune.

His last days on this earth were spent in a quiet, peaceful surrounding, and the embarrassment of his financial difficulties was nobly shared by his beloved wife.
Mr. Hilligoss was 72 years of age and leaves besides his wife, five daughters and two sons, none of whom are residents of this city.

The arrangements for the funeral have not been made and announcement will be made later.

Horatio was the son of Isaac and Nancy "Inlow" Hilligow.

Horatio was married three times:
Elizabeth Morrison on February 9, 1853
Frances "Fanny" Ray on August 29, 1867
Elizabeth Butler on March 21, 1878

Horatio and Elizabeth Morrison's children were: Albon M., Emma Frances and Horatio Hilligosss. Albon married Margaret Brown and Emma married Lewis Odom.

Horatio and Fanny's daughter was Winnifred "Winnie" May Hilligoss, who married Bert Mull.
