Nelson S. Kress of Wichita, Kansas died Friday night, July 30, 1965 at the age of 56 years and one day. A son of Frederick Nelson Kress and his wife, Lou Edna Kress, he was born July 29, 1909 at Sterling, Nebr., and it was here that his boyhood and young manhood days were spent.
During World War II he served his country for two years in the army.
He married Miss Doris Rowe of Cook in 1944. For two years they lived on a farm in Missouri, then 11 years ago moved to Wichita, Kansas where he served as custodian of South High School until his death.
Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kress and both survive their father. They are Charles, who is a member of the United States Air Force and is presently stationed in Wichita, and Rose, also of Wichita, Kansas.
Nelson was a member of the Methodist church, but after moving to Wichita he attended the Baptist church near his home. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Doris; son Charles; daughter, Mrs. Don Tatum; one son-in-law; his mother, Mrs. Lou Norris of Sterling, three sisters and one brother; Mrs. Thelma Burke of Lincoln, Raymond Kress of Sterling, Mrs. Goldie Diggs of Washington and Mrs. Lena (Alvin) Bray of Sterling; also nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The Rev. Woodrow Elliott of Sterling Methodist church officiated at the graveside service in the Sterling cemetery Wednesday morning. Members of American Legion Post 140 Sterling assisted during the military service.
Besides the members of the family from Wichita, others who came from a distance for the funeral were Mrs. Lucy Rowe, Marion Rowe, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rose, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mr and Mrs. Harvey Kress, Salina, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Crawford, Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Judy Snyder, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. John Starlin, Beatrice. One sister, Mrs. Diggs, was unable to attend because of illness.
