Funeral services for Roy English, 48. Who died of a heart attack at a filling station at Moomaw at 4:15 Friday afternoon. Were held this afternoon at 2:30 at the Lands Funeral Home. With The Rev. Burton Davies pastor of the Christian church, in charge of the services. Burial was in the Alliance cemetery.
Mr. English, a resident of Alliance for the past ten years. Was trucking a load of cattle to Scottsbluff in company with Hugh Fortner, a Box Butte farmer, When he was taken ill. He stopped at the filling station at Moomaw, four miles north of Bayard, and drank some soda to relieve gas pains in his stomach. The increased gas pressure from the soda affected his heart and died within a few minutes. Dr. Pugsley, a Bayard physician. Who was called to the station, said death was due to a heart attack. English was dead when the doctor arrived.
Mr. English is survived by his widow, who is critically ill at the home on Sweetwater avenue, and two children. Roy Lee, aged seven, and Buddy, aged three. He has two sons by a former marriage, one a sailor in the U.S.navy. He was a member of the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department. A former member of the Eagles and of the American Legion at Julesburg, Colo.. Where he lived before coming to Alliance. Legion records at Julesburg were destroyed by fire some years ago and local members of the organization are trying to get his record from Washington. Little is known of him here prior to his coming from Julesburg ten years ago.
