James H Alvey Requiem Mass will be celebrated Friday at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Cavour, SD. James H Alvey, 88, was a long-time resident of the Cavour community. Rev. Kenneth Schmitz will officiate; burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Huron, SD Pallbearers will be Glenn Atz., Melvin Bemis, William Macguire, Wilfred Sampson, Gerald Corrigan and Ned Lather. Friends may call at the Welter Funeral Home Wednesday evening or Thursday afternoon or evening. Rosary will be recited there Thursday at 8pm. Alvey died Tuesday afternoon in St John's Hospital. He was born July 27, 1879 in Indiana. In 1900, he married Bertha Vergin and they moved to South Dakota in 1902. He farmed at Cavour. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs Thomas Bloodgood, Cavour, three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Frank Greiner, Ft Worth, TX and Mrs Grover Konkler, Mena, AR; two brothers Bernard and Walter Alvey, Phoenix. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son Clifford. four brothers and two sisters.
