Myrum James "Jim" Mudgett was born March 26, 1898 in Calico, California to Elvin Leroy and Fannie Anges Mulcahy Mudgett. He was reportedly the last child born in what is now the ghost town of Calico.

In 1904 he started school in Daggett and attended there until 1907 when his family moved to Barstow. On September 20, 1915 he enrolled at the new high school in Barstow. He was the first student body president of Barstow High School.

In World War I, he joined the Army and served in France. After the war he returned to Barstow. He worked in a variety of occupations.

He was married twice, first to Ethel Forbes and then to Annette Schau Gleason, but had no children.

He was an avid fisherman and spent part of each year with his small boat and trailer in the Bishop area.

In his later years he became very involved in researching and documenting the family history of the Mudgett/Mudget and Mulcahy families. He was in contact with many family members. He left behind many important family history letters and documents. He also donated photos and other important items to the Mojave River Valley Museum in Barstow which helped many other family members in researching their heritage.

Jim died July 12, 1980 at Lancaster, California at age 82.

Remembered by family in 2009.
