The son of John Wagaman and Barbry Houser, Solomon was born and raised in Jessamine County, Kentucky. He and his older brother, Abraham, moved to Monroe County, Indiana in 1830. Their parents, and several more siblings, followed in 1833.

Solomon married Rebecca Beckett on 06 April 1835 in Monroe County. She was born in 1814. The Wagamans were the parents of 2 children.

Monroe County land records show that Solomon sold his land to his father, John, on 14 Apr 1837. Sometime after that, the family moved to Pike County, Missouri.

Rebecca passed away in Missouri "on or about the 15th day of September 1843."

After Rebecca's death, Solomon returned to Perry Township in Monroe County, Indiana. He married Sarah Jane Hale on 04 Nov 1850 in Greene County, Indiana. She was the niece of Solomon's first wife.

Solomon and Sarah Jane were the parents of a boy and a girl when, in 1858, they moved the family back to Missouri. Another boy was born there in late November of that year.

Both of Solomon's sons from his first marriage served in the Civil War. William J. Wagaman, represented Missouri and was a member of the 65th Regiment of the Missouri Militia, Company D from 1862 to 1863.

Solomon's second son from his first marriage, John Thomas Wagaman, joined the army on 17 Feb 1862. He served with the 6th Regiment Missouri Militia, Cavalry, Company L. Tragically, John died during the war in Sedalia, Pettis County, Missouri as a result of "diseases and cold." He had entered the hospital on 30 Jun 1862 suffering from measles and died of complications 2 weeks later.

The birthplaces of Solomon and Sarah Jane's 2 youngest children raise some interesting questions. Records indicate that a daughter, Sarah Ann, was born in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois in 1864. Another boy, James, was born in Missouri in 1867. This seems to indicate that the family was once again on the move during those years.

By 1880, the Wagamans lived in Carrollton, Carroll County, Missouri and later moved to Independence in Jackson County. They spent the last few years of their lives living with some of their children in the Kansas City area.

Grandchildren later told stories about visits with Grandpa Wagaman, who was warmly remembered for his gentle teasing and sense of humor.

At the time of his death, Solomon was about 98-years-old. He was survived by his second wife, Sarah Jane, who passed away in 1911.
