"Thomas married, in 1809, his 1st wife Anna Foote (d. 1819) by whom he had 5 children (3 sons and 2 daughters): Annice (b. 1811), Harvey (1813-1869), Orange Adams (b. 1815), Samuel M. (1817-1909), and Anna (1819-1849). Thomas married, November 14, 1819 at Whitehall, Washington County, New York, his 2nd wife Sophia Jones (1802-1878) by whom he had 7 more children (5 sons and 2 daughters): Lucius (1820-1897), Jerry (b. 1822), Marina (b. 1823), Hannah (b. 1828), William Saunders (b. 1830), Ira Wilson (1833-1923), and Cornelius (1835-1864).

During the War of 1812, Thomas enlisted at Whitehall, in 1814, and served under Captain Barker of the 154th New York Militia Regiment. Previous to this enlistment, he had been employed for over a year, in the transportation of military stores, particularly powder, from Whitehall to Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont, and, after the Battle of Plattsburgh, on September 11, 1814, in conveying prisoners to Albany, New York."

Thomas was a farmer in Whitehall, Washington County, New York, until October 1871, when he removed to Winfield, Du Page County, Illinois.
