The daughter of John Herman Nolle and Catherine "Katie" Ottie, "Vernie" was baptized at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels, Calhoun County, Illinois.

Vernie married Henry August "Heinie" Meseke on 03 May 1923 in St. Louis County, Missouri. They were the parents of 1 son.

For a while, Heinie and a younger brother, George, had jobs in St. Louis building cars for Moon Motors. Vernie and Heinie later had a farm in the Spanish Lake area for many years.

While still in St. Louis, Vernie gave birth to the couple's only child after 22 years of marriage. The family then moved to a farm in Carrollton, Greene County, Illinois in the late 1940's.

The Mesekes were members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Carrollton.

Heinie passed away in early 1966.

Vernie lived for well over 30 years after her husband died. At the time of her death at The Willows Nursing Home in 1996, Vernie was 93 years, 9 months and 12 days old.

She was survived by 1 son of Hamburg, Illinois; 2 sisters, Mamie Meseke of St. Louis, Missouri; and Elsie Markle of Jerseyville, Illinois.

In addition to her husband, Vernie was also preceded in death by her parents; 1 sister, Clara Baxter; and 1 brother, William Nolle.

Visitation was held from noon until the beginning of 2 p.m. funeral services on 23 Nov 1996 at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Hardin, Illinois.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Vernie was buried next to her husband, Heinie, on 23 Nov 1996.
