George F. Bailey, Civil War veteran, died suddenly at the Soldier's Home hospital at Burkett at about 2:15 a.m. Thursday. Despite his rather enfeebled condition, resultant to his advanced age, Mr. Bailey was up and about the institution on Wednesday and was apparently feeling well when he retired for the night. He was born in Hancock County, Ind., August 17, 1845, being aged 79 years, 5 months and 5 days. On November 6, 1863 he enlisted as a private in Company B, 9th Cavalry, Indiana volunteers, serving until June 16, 1865. He was admitted to Burkett from Grand Island Jan. 12, 1921. Surviving him are his widow, residing at Burkett, six daughters, Mrs. Edith Jones, Mrs. Chas. Hessel, Mrs. Anna Rathbun, Mrs. John Wicker, all of Grand Island; Mrs. Luella Ketch of Nehawka, Nebr.; Mrs. John Heebner of Weeping Water, Nebr.; and one son, George of Pueblo, Colo. funeral services will be held at Trinity M.E. church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery.
