BALLOU---Near Wheaton, Ill., Tuesday morning, August 2nd, 1881, Mrs. Mary Ballou, consort of Mr. Levi Ballou.

Mrs. Ballou was born in the State of Vermont, March 30, 1810. She was united in marriage to her present bereaved husband, August 10th, 1833, by whom she had ten children, only five of whom remain to mourn her death. Five went home before her, and have given her a welcome in the land of the pure and good.

She came with her husband to Illinois in 1837 and settled in what is now DuPage County, where she has resided ever since; not in the same neighborhood, but within the limits of the county.

She was born and reared by pious parents, both being members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She was led to make a profession of religion and connect herself with the Methodist Episcopal Church, under the ministry of Rev. Gardner Baker, of Precious Memory, in central New York, in 1829, of which she remained an honored and beloved member up till date of her death.

She was possessed of a vigorous constitution and a strong mind. She was in every sense of the word a helpmate to her husband in all the walks of life. A wife whom her husband trusted and leaned upon for sympathy, counsel and advice in all the struggles of life.

Her children and grandchildren rise up to call her blessed. As a Christian she walked worthy of her high vocation.

For the last two years she has been a great sufferer and especially for the last two months. In all her suffering, although at times very acute, she never murmured or repined. Her last end was peace.

Her funeral was preached on Thursday, August 4th in the Methodist Church by her pastor, Rev. E.M. Boring, of which she had been a member for the last 24 years, in the presence of a large collection of her family and friends.

Rev. A.B. Curtis, a local preacher and class leader, who had known her for many years, gave his testimony in relation to her Christian character. She was blessed in her life and was made to triumph in her death.
