Son of Charles Carl Houser and Maria Mary Katharina (Eyer) Houser. He married Elizabeth Bonser, between 1851 and 1852.

They had 8 children; Mary, Sarah Jane, Edwin, Lydiann, Susannah, William Henry, Emma Elizabeth and Amelia C. Houser.

He married 2nd Susan (Branson) Johnson age 37. Oct. 16, 1890 in Nemaha Co., Kansas he was age 63.

They were divorced by March 1, 1901 when he sells his land.

In 1910 Josiah age 85 lived with his son William Henry Houser in Cottonwood, Lincoln Co., Nebraska.

In the obituary of Josiah's brother Tillman E. Houser dated April 8, 1918, Tillman states "A brother, Josiah, lives near Spokane Washington".

Josiah Houser died May 19, 1918, 3 miles North East of Colbert, Spokane Co., Washington and buried May 21, 1918 in Peone Cemetery Peone, Spokane Co., Washington. I have his death certificate, he died at the age of 90 of Uraemia after 7 days and of senitity.
