John Oliver "Johnnie" Strickland, 77 (b. 16 May 1898), of Route 1, Nahunta, passed away late Saturday night (2 Aug 1976) at Memorial Hospital in Waycross following a short illness. His demise brings personal sorrow to a host of relatives and friends throughout this and other sections and removes one of Brantley County's most esteemed residents.

Mr. Strickland was a native of Ware County and was the son of the late William Rueben "Billy" Strickland and Alice Sophronia Crosby Strickland. He received his education in the public school system of his native county and from early manhood, he had been engaged as a painter and a farmer. He was a member of the Hickox Baptist Church and had resided in Brantley County for the past 55 years.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma DePratter Strickland, of Nahunta;
two daughters, Annie Grace Herrin of Nahunta and Betty Jean Osborne of Waverly;
one son, Perry R. Strickland of College Park;
three brothers, Edwin Strickland of Patterson, J. Marvin Strickland of Waycross and Q. L Strickland of San Diego, CA;
four half sisters, Mrs. Kenvon East of Columbia, SC, (line missing) loosa, AL, Mrs. John Snare of Gainesville and Mrs. Hal Crawford of Chamblee;
four half brothers, H. L. Strickland of Nahunta, Rueben Strickland of Huntsville, AL, Barney Strickland of Columbia, SC, and Dr. Arthur J. Strickland of Washington, GA:
eight grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, from the Hickox Baptist Church with the Rev. W. B. Glosson officiating, assisted by Rev. Cecil F. Thomas. The body lay in state one hour prior to services. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harry DePratter, Billy Strickland, Alton DePratter, Herbert Smith, Addison Strickland, Ralph Smith and W.R. Strickland.

Chambless Funeral was in charge of arrangements.
