Ida Bell (Emert) Gridley was the daughter of Richard C. Emert (1821-1877) and Mahala (Lyon) Emert (1824-1898), both natives of Tennessee. Ida was the youngest of 13 children; the following are her known siblings:

On February 14, 1888, Ida married William Alvin Gridley in La Plata. They lived most of their married life in Logan County, Kansas. They had the following known children:
