UTAH PIONEER IS DEAD AT 90
Funeral services were being arranged Thursday for John Haskell Woodbury, 90, Utah pioneer, who died Wednesday at his home in Granger of the infirmities of age.
Mr. Woodbury came to Salt Lake county with one of the first L.D.S. companies to cross the plains, arriving in Salt Lake City September 26, 1847, with his parents, Thomas Hobert and Catherine Haskell Woodbury.
During his life he had been an active member of the L.D.S. church, serving on a mission in England in 1896 and 1897. At the time of his death he was a president of the Woodbury Genealogical society and a member of the high priests' quorum of the Granger L.D.S. ward.
Born in Nauvoo, Ill., September 11, 1845, Mr. Woodbury crossed the plains when he was 2 years old. He was married to Miss Sarah Alexina Bray, a member of another pioneer family, May 10, 1870, when he took up residence at Granger. His wife died in 1929.
During the Blackhawk rebellion in Utah, Mr. Woodbury served under the command of Captain Dewey and Major Caspers. Until two years ago he had been engaged as a farmer.
Surviving are three sons, William H. Woodbury, Warren H. Woodbury and Harrison B. Woodbury; one daughter, Mrs. Catherine Mabel W. Eldredge, all of Granger; 29 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
