Correspondent Dies

Russell C. Clapper, 70, of Box 208, Duncansville RD 1, Cross Keys, a newspaper correspondent for the Altoona Mirror and Blair Press, died unexpectedly at 3 p. m. Tuesday, July 22, 1980, in his home.

Mr. Clapper retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad and Lafferty Trucking Co. He was the Cross Keys correspondent for the newspapers.

He was born Aug. 29, 1909, in Carson Valley, the son of Samuel R. and Mary E. (Hoover) Clapper, and on June 15, 1934, in Chicago, Ill., married Edith M. Helsel, who died April 26, 1974. Surviving are two children, Glen A. of Duncansville RD1 and Mrs. Nada Yeckley of Coatsville RD3; four grandchildren and three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Sarah Walters of Duncansville, Mrs. Edna Langham and Ruth Hoover of Duncansville RD1 and David B. of Hollidaysburg RD1.

Mr. Clapper was a member of the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren, where he was a life-time deacon, Sunday School superintendent and janitor. He was an assessor for Allegheny Township. He was county chairman for the heart association and a board member of the March of Dimes. He was a board member of fund-raising for Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults. He was a Blair County Republican committeeman and a member of the Jolly 60s and
Hollidaysburg Community Farm Show Association.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Donald E. Liebegott Funeral Home, Duncansville.
