Tucson Mayor 1871-1873; Lieutenant in the Civil War, came to Tucson with the military in 1861. He also was involved with the Camp Grant massacre which later he refuted. He was editor of the "Weekly Arizona" which was established in 1859. He served in the territorial assembly and operated a trading post at Fort Bowie. DeLong Peak in Pima County, AZ is named for him.
Sidney Randolph DeLong enlisted as a private at Amador California, August 18, 1861, and was mustered into Company C, 1st California Infantry August 26. Private DeLong was mustered out February 19, 1863, to accept a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and was transferred to Company B. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant May 4, 1864. Lieutenant DeLong was mustered out in New Mexico Territory, October 31, 1864, and re-enlisted that same day to be mustered into Company B, 1st California Veteran Infantry. Lieutenant DeLong was mustered out in New Mexico Territory July 11, 1866.
