Miss Mabel Aenella Guild, 78, former assistant librarian at the University of Arizona, died early Saturday morning at her home, 107 Olive Road. She had been ill for several days.

On the library staff for 32 years, Miss Guild started work there in 1907 as general assistant. She became cataloger in 1916 and assistant librarian in 1926. Upon her retirement in July 1939, she was commended by the board of regents for her service.

Miss Guild was born in Milford KS on 10 Aug 1869. She graduated from Brigham Academy in Bakersfield VT in 1988 and taught in elementary schools in Massachusetts and Vermont prior to coming to Arizona.

In Tucson since 1901, she studied at the U of A during 1902-03, taught in the city schools for two years and instructed in the university preparatory school in 1906.

She was a sister of the late Prof Frank N Guild, who was a member of the U of A faculty for many years.

RITES SCHEDULED TUESDAY FOR MISS MABEL A GUILD

Final rites for Miss Mabel Aenella Guild, 78, who died Saturday morning at her home, 107 Olive Road, are set for 2 pm Tuesday at Bring’s chapel, with Rev R A Dawson officiating, Prof Rollin Pease in charge of music, and burial following in the University of Arizona plot of Evergreen cemetery.

Pallbearers include Dr B S Butler, Dr T F Buehrer, Dr T S Lovving, Dr Lathrop E Roberts, Dr R H Forbes and Prof Harold C Schwalen.

Miss Gould was on the University of Arizona library staff from 1907 until 1939.
