German was the fourth child of Jacob and Nancy (Wood) Walker.

In his teenage years German hauled groceries and feed with a yoke of oxen from Hinton, in Summers County, WVA, to stock his father's store in Egeria. It took two days to make the round trip.

German was a man possessing several livlihoods, including farming, sawmill and timbering businesses and on occstion he was in a threshing machine venture and also had a barrel-stave mill in operation in the early 1900's. He was in partnership with Clowney L. Harvey for those last two mentioned ventures.

German married Nyanza Nicti Cerulean Walker-Walker (1879-1944) on July 4, 1897 in Egeria, WV, they were second cousin,s and signed their parents names to the application for the marriage license, the ceremony was held in a sawmill shanty in Egeria. Later German and Nicti set up housekeeping in this same shanty, which was on Devils Fork Rd.

German had a very close relationship with his two brothers, Wesley "Ned" and Haden Walker. They were known the county over for their joking, kidding and prank-playing. They never seemed to tire of this type of amusement and never appeared to be offended by it.

German and Nicti moved from the farm at Egeria to the coal mining camp of Crumpler, WVA. After several years when coal mining began to fail, they returned to Egeria in 1911.

In his later years, German had to have a leg amputated.
