James S. Dixon passed away at his home at Tenth and B streets yesterday noon following a long illness with a heart ailment.

He was born in Taylor County, Iowa, October 24, 1858 [1860 headstone]. In the year 1877 with his parents, he came by train from Omaha, Nebraska to San Francisco and from there by boat to Portland. A few years later in 1992 he came to the Kittitas Valley where he resided until his death.

During his early manhood here, he was among the first to haul freight from the Dalles before the railroad was built. Later he farmed the land for a great period of time. He was the first rural mail carrier here. Mr. Dixon was married in October 1895 to Mrs. Mollie Twyman, who passed away in 1918.

In 1922 he was married to Mrs. Anna Mundy, who survives him. Besides his widow, he leaves to mourn his loss a daughter; three brothers, Elwood Dixon, Seattle and a half brother Archie Dixon, Centralia, and a half sister, Mrs. Myrtle Eaden, Orting, Washington.

A number of other relatives and a host of friends also mourn his passing.
