Daughter of Matthews Flournoy, Jr., a prominent lawyer from Fayette County, Kentucky and his wife Emily Smith Flournoy, "Lizzie" married Captain Henry Johnson (1794-1862)when she was just sixteen years of age, on April 2, 1816 at Fayette County, Kentucky. Eventually the couple would have twelve children. Henry and Lizzie split their time between their plantations in both Kentucky and in Washington County, Mississippi. Her husband died at their Mississippi plantation home known as "Chatham" in 1862 after which she relocated back to Kentucky and eventually Indiana.
