Henry served as a Private in Company I, 3rd MS Cavalry (State Troops) during the War for Southern Independence. Henry was one of five brothers who fought for the Confederacy. His brothers were Benjamin S.; Charles F.; Robert A. and Matthew Flournoy Johnson. Henry married twice, first to Sallie Gaddy of KY in 1850. Sallie died in 1862. He then married Ludia Bartlett in 1867. His known children were Claude M.; George G.; William H.; Robert A.; Anne T.; Narcisse; Charles; and Edward B. Johnson.
