Rex Haddock Hayes, 82, of Soda Springs, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at home. He was born August 18, 1925 at Georgetown, Idaho the son of Horace Alma and Naomi Haddock Hayes. He was raised and educated in Goergetown, Idaho; he had also lived at Conda, Bancroft and Soda Springs where he established his own business. He also spent the last several years in Overton, Nevada. He had attended Mechanical School in Rupert; the Dale Carnegie Course and was a successful self-taught business man and had received a pilots license. Rex married DeVonne "Bonnie" Dunford January 6, 1944 in Georgetown, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on June 6, 1945. Rex served in WWII in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Soda Springs LDS 2nd Ward and had been the ward dance director. Rex established Rex's Sales and Service and sold cars, trucks, farm machinery, snow mobiles and owned his tow trucking business. He enjoyed piloting his own plane snow machines, motorcycles, boating, bowling, water-skiing, square dancing, hunting, fishing; he loved to collect guns and was a good marksman. Rex is survived by his wife Bonnie Hayes, Soda Springs; 2 sons and 2 daughters and their spouses; Rustin Rex (Nannette) Hayes, Michael Ray (Tyra) Hayes all of Soda Springs; Krista (John) Yates, Salt Lake City, Utah and Cynthia (Dan) Northcutt, San Diego, CA; also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and a sister, Janiece (Carroll) Hildreth, Soda Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters and a great-grandson, Drew Thompson. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, April 4th at Noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
