A death which brings deep sorrow to a wide circle of friends, and to the entire membership of the church in which she has been so active for years, occurred at 12:15 p.m. today when Mrs. Harley O. True died at St. Joseph's hospital, following an operation performed Sunday. She was 38 years of age.
Her passing comes as a shock to many who had known her intimately during her residence here because her illness was of short duration. As was her custom, she had gone to the First Baptist church Thursday, for all day work with the Aid Society, of which she was a faithful member. At the noon hour she became ill, was later taken home, and gradually grew worse until the operation was resorted to in a last attempt to save her life.
Lola June Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Taylor, was born at Mt. Ayr, Iowa, June 22, 1895. The parents since 1910 have resided in Wayne and Appanoose county, so she has been a resident of this vicinity since girlhood. She attended Central college, at Pella, Iowa, and on August 19, 1915, was united in marriage with Harley O. True, who with the parents, survive. She leaves no brothers or sisters, being the only child. The parents reside on a farm northwest of this city.
Several years ago Mr. and Mrs. True moved to this city from their farm home, and became active in the work of the First Baptist church, she having accepted the Christian faith as a girl. Here her capable hands found much to do, and in practically all phases of church endeavor she has always been found willing and anxious to serve faithfully. She has been for the past few years financial secretary of the church, a task involving much effort and constant attention. She was also a member of the choir and here too she was found always faithful and anxious to do her part in providing for this phase of worship. As a member of the Aid Society even adverse health conditions failed to daunt her efforts to render every assistance in this department. In fact her life touched all departments of Christian endeavor, and she was an inspiration to those who might have otherwise become discouraged in the work of the Master. She was a member of the B.B.B. Sunday school class, and always took a just pride in the accomplishment of any and all departments of the church and its affiliated societies.
Mrs. True was also a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans, and found time to give this organization needed support in its various endeavors. Her church activities and affiliation with this patriotic organization endeared her to scores of people with whom she came in contact, and her passing not only brings the deepest of sorrow to the husband, parents and other relatives, but to this great number of people who were privileged to call her their friend.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the First Baptist church, conducted by the pastor Rev. L. W. Childs. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
