There are clearly some inconsistencies with the various dates presented in this memorial. The Confederate service record for Able Scronce indicates he was 20 when he enlisted on 15 March 1862. Additionally, the 1860 US Census record for Catawba County, dated July 1860, shows Abel a 19- year-old man in the household of Charley Scronce, 72, and Mary Scronce, 67, more likely grandparents, as there is also a 43-year-old Rebecca listed. The grave marker presented in this memorial with Abel's name shows a birthdate of 1824 and a death date of 1922, making him nearly 100 years old. The death certificate presented in this memorial shows an "Abram Scronce" born in 1832 and dying at 89 years old in 1922.
