Shronce, Joseph Q, Pvt. 46th NC Co K ANV
Enlisted March 18, 1862 Camp Mangum. Stationed at Drewrys Bluff prior to Seven Pines. Wounded at Sharpsburg in the West Wood with a bullet wound to the thigh. Convalesced at home and reported back Dec 31, 1862. Participated in the building of breast-works (Frampton Line) at Pocotaligo, SC. Skirmished at the 2nd Battle of Gum Swamp, near New Bern NC, stationed at the South Anna Bridge/Richmond during Gettysburg and in the far right flank during the Battle of Bristoe Station. On Feb 15, 1864 at the Orange CH, Joseph succumbed to "congestion of the brain" and was buried at the Soldiers Rest Plantation, Culpeper VA, now an overgrown plot in the center of a cornfield. On the Tar Heel Roll of Honor and Fallen 600 monument at the Catawba Co CH in Newton NC. No known photo of him exist at this time, but my search continues...

Gravesite Details

Update: On 12/2/2023, members of the Mountain Island Preservation Society of Charlotte, North Carolina and descendants of Private Scronce, installed a VA gable top style copy marker at he gravesite. Dedication took place the next day on 12/3/2023.
