She will be remembered as a person who was always willing to lend a helping hand and spent most of her life pursuing this passion. As a teacher, she worked for Mojave Unified School District for 42 years, where she was heard of the bilingual program. Many of town's youth will remember the joy and pride of speaking their first English words in Mrs V classroom. Her dedication to her students and her fondness for breaking all the rules made her unforgettable at Mojave Elementary.
Proud of her culture, she organized the Cinco de Mayo Festival at the school for over 10 years and eventually pioneered the event's evolution as a multicultural festival to celebrate all. She also served as PTA president, fundraiser for school activities, was awared the PTA Acorn Award for her volunteer work, and always involved in her community throughout her life.
She was a woman of great faith and spirtiuality and was an active member of St Francis Mission in her home town.One of her greatest joys in life was the the active role she had in her grandchildren's upbringing. They will remember her as strong presence in their lives whose door was alway open. Betty also enjoyed scrap booking, going to the movies and adding to her various Betty Boop collection.
Care take of all, always willing the help with a smile, Betty took pride in everything she did and will greatly missed by her many students, fellow teachers, friends and family. Predecing her in death, loving Husband Robert J Vondriska, parents Eulalio and Maria Lara and son Max J Montoya. She survived and remembered by her children Lily Mashouri, Encinitas, CA., Mary Drewing Redmond, WA., Sandre Okimura Hilo, HI., Grandchildrens Terry W. Hughes, Jerry W Hughes, Ryan Montoya, Jade Montoya, step children Robin Scheafer, Laurie Forrest, Allison Ledwidge, Nikki Graham; and twenty-nine grandchildren and sixteen great-children
Viewing will be held at Stickel Mortuary, 2201 Inyo Street, Mojave on Thursday February 21, 3 to 6pm. Fueral services will be held at St Francis Mission 15382 Myer Rd., Mojave at 11:am preceded by a tecitation of the Rosary at 10:30 am. Burial will be at Mojave Cemetery follwoing the funeral services
