Mrs. Rachel Sparling, who disappeared Monday and is the object of an intense search in the Pasadena area, is a native of Mojave, and much of her family still lives here. Her husband, Darrell, was also raised in Mojave, and the couple are both graduates of Mojave High School.
Still living in Mojave are Mrs. Sparling's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E, G; Lara; two brothers, Joe Lara and E.G. ,Lara, Jr., and a sister, Betty Montoya. She also has two other sisters, Annie Beck of VisaIia and Millie Rigo of Escondido.
Her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Sparling, were the former owners for many years of Kayo's Trailer Park in Mojave. They retired and moved to the coast several yrs. ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Sparling make their home in EI Toro, and are the parents of four daughters, Becky, 12; Renee, 15; Shelly 16, and Rhonda, 17.
Mrs. Sparling was last seen on Monday afternoon when she left her doctor's office in Pasadena. Her 1972 Corvette was found after being involved in a traffic accident, and a 17-year old youth has been taken into custody.
The youth and a girl companion apparently ran from the accident scene in Granada Hills. Mrs. Sparling's purse and a .25 automatic pistol were found in the car, Her watch, a birthday present last month from her husband, was found on the youth's person, and three rings, including her wedding ring were found in the house where he was apprehended. He allegedly told police officers he saw Mrs. Sparling re-enter the doctor's office, leaving the motor running, and her purse, watch and rings lying on the seat. He admitted taking the car and owning the gun. He denied knowing the wherabouts or the fate of Mrs. Sparling.
A call late Wednesday afternoon to the Pasadena Police Dept., who is in charge of the investigation, elicited no new information in the case. John:McCallister, public information Officer, said the case could very well be termed as "mysterious" but that people had been very helpful in calling in with information, and all leads were being followed up and worked on.
