Daniel Bradshaw, the son of John and Maria Bradshaw, was born February 1, 1891 (sic), near Lancashire, England. When yet an infant he came to America with his parents, brother and sisters. They first located in Lucas Co., Iowa, then later to Forbush, near Centerville. When he was grown his parents moved to a farm near Hilltown, just a little south and east of the church.
The parents later passed away but the son Daniel continued to live on the home place, with the exception of four years he spent in Keokuk, Iowa.
In 1912 he was united in marriage to Clara Stites and to this union two sons were born, Robert Arnold of Dean, and John Daniel of Centerville.
Mr. Bradshaw departed this life at the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville at 3:45 p.m. Monday, September 8th, 1941. His death was due to a fall while working at his coal mine in the morning of the same day.
In his infancy he was christened into the Episcopal church. He was a faithful husband, a kind and loving father and a good neighbor, always ready to cooperate and lend a helping hand in time of need.
Those left to sorrow are his companion, two sons, one step-daughter, Mrs. Edna Whisler of Centerville, five granddaughters, three sisters, Betsy Adamson, Hannah Starwitch, and Catherine Stark, all of Seattle, Washington, other relatives and a host of friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother who died in 1937.
Funeral services were held at the Hilltown Christian church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. Luther W. Childs, in the presence of a crowd that by far taxed the capacity of the church. Interment in the Hilltown Cemetery, near the church.
